ResponseI really enjoyed this
film and wasn't confused by the fact that the events don't happen in
chronological order. It is a great twist on the romantic/comedy genre. It is a
light hearted film with a great dance sequence which was a little random but
also a film where you can feel the emotions for the characters which was shown
through a split scene sequence .
Exam Use
It was an independent production that was funded for distribution by Fox Searchlight Pictures and achieved a profit of over $60 million worldwide, and won several awards and had several nominations.

ReplyDeleteI absolutely loved this film as well. The mixed order of events was really well edited and definitely helped to give a strong contrast between Tom's emotions - it definitely wasn't confusing at all. The dance sequence was by far one of my favourite of the film, with the use of music in general being really well done, too - it was a pleasant change to hear lesser known songs in an American film. Like you said, it was a really great twist on the genre and it was nice to see a fairly sad ending instead of the typical happy ending Hollywoood gives us (not that this was a Hollywood production).
This films has bar far the best cinematography that i have seen in a long time, the expectations vs. reality scene made the film for me, what really annoys me about the film is that everyone sides with Tom, when Summer c;early stated she didn't want a relationship from the start. (clearly because she fancies me) Zooey Deschanel stand out actress in my opinion.
ReplyDeleteMAY THE FORCE BE WITH YOU.
500 Days of Summer is a beautifully constructed film, with a cleverly created non-linear narrative that is still easy to follow. The film has a deliacte quality to it where the stereotypical characters are reversed by a strong female role and a sensitive male. The soundtrack is brilliant and the classic Smiths lyrics tied in well with the story. I think it's impossible to get bored of this film.
ReplyDeleteThis is an interesting American independent take on a RomCom - you could use this in the first question on the exam paper - how independent films differ from the classic Hollywood films.
